Interested in joining our lab?!
Please reach out to Dr. Willette via email ([email protected]) or come drop by his office in the Featherston Life Science Building. Student-researchers typically join in late spring or early fall semester at the sophomore, junior, or senior level. LMU’s Biology Department does not host Masters or Doctoral students, but Dr. Willette regularly serves on such committees; please inquire if interested.
Ending the Diversity Gap in Ecology (E.D.G.E.) Effect Project
Since 2018, the Willette Lab has supported sustained undergraduate research opportunities for under-represented minority groups in ecology and STEM. Described by Odum & Barrett (1971), the ecological concept of edge effect states greater diversity arises at the boundary where 2 or more habitats meet. In our lab, we adopt this concept by purposefully bringing together students from different cultural, racial, and economic backgrounds to widen our shared perspectives of ecology, build capacity in research, and support students as they prepare to seek advanced degrees and join the STEM workforce.
