Post-doctoral researcher under the National Science Foundation-support Coral Triangle Partnerships in International Research and Education (ctPIRE) project. Performed data analysis of on molecular genetic species data sets from 5-year ctPIRE project in preparation of submission of manuscripts for publication; writing, formatting and submission of scientific manuscripts; mentor and guide American and foreign undergraduate and graduate students in their data analysis and manuscript preparation; developing the use of advance genomic tools (RAD-sequencing, Transcriptomics) in the ctPIRE lab; coordinate correspondences with domestic and foreign collaborators on project related manuscripts and upcoming activities; currently leading a marine molecular ecology summer workshop in a Thailand university; and participating in professional development activities including lab meetings, presentations, scientific conferences, grant writing and course development.

Post-doctoral researcher under the aforementioned NSF-supported ctPIRE project. Coordination of foreign research and education components of the ctPIRE project in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam, with extended research or education activities in Thailand and Taiwan. In residency in each of these countries for a period of 2 months to 2 years, with the exception of Thailand and Taiwan. Developed and taught marine molecular ecology course and laboratory training for Filipino and Vietnamese graduate students and faculty; lead laboratory activities and organized acquisition of laboratory and field supplies; worked with foreign governments to secure research permits and travel visas for participants; and organized and coordinated annual research symposia. Established a robust partnership with the Philippine Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, including securing multiple research grants, mentoring graduate students, and collaborating on key commodity fish sustainability projects. Primary research objectives included taxonomy, ecology, and population genetics of sardine (Clupeidae), as well as jacks (Carangidae) and crabs (Portunidae). Created and presented numerous public presentations on on-going research on fishery projects in universities, government agencies, and non-government organizations. Served as Adjunct Professor at Silliman University, Philippines (5/2011 – Present), and Visiting Faculty at Nha Trang University, Vietnam (3/2012 – 5/2012). Co-authored and was awarded a total of four research/conference grants from US and Philippine funding sources, and co-authored 9 peer-reviewed manuscripts now published or in review.

Developed and conducted four-year dissertation research project investigating the impact of natural and anthropogenic disturbances on Caribbean seagrass bed ecosystems. Research was conducted primarily on the island-nation of Dominica, West Indies at the Institute for Tropical Marine Ecology, while additional studies were conducted in St. Lucia, Antigua, and at the University of California Los Angeles campus. Completed course work per the requirements of a doctoral degree, including course work in Environmental Law, Sustainable Architecture, Public Policy, Applied Ecology and Epidemiology. Collected, organized, analyzed and created reports, talks, and presentations on research findings. Developed a community outreach program to raise seagrass awareness in Dominica. During this time lead and/or assisted in teaching field ecology and marine science courses at the University of California Los Angeles (Teaching Fellow), California State University Los Angeles (Adjunct Faculty), and the Institute for Tropical Marine Ecology (Adjunct Faculty) to American and foreign undergraduate and graduate students. Received several research grants, including Celia and Joseph Blann Fellowship and Eugene Cota-Robles Diversity Fellowship for under-represented groups in science and technology.
